Day 2 ~ March 21st

We attempted to sleep in the car
for a time while parked at a rest area
in Hawthorne, Nevada.
Please note "Attempted" to sleep.
After 6 hours, we got up and hit the trail.
At least there was a cool naval deck gun
to play on at the rest area!

Continuing through the Nevada desert,
we started climbing toward Montgomery Pass,
over 7,100 feet elevation.
Once over the pass, we were treated to
a grand view of Boundary Peak,
the highest point in Nevada.

California! We made it!

Playing at the McDonalds playland in Bishop, CA.
We stopped here for breakfast.

Approaching Mt. Whitney,
the highest peak in the lower 48 states.
Here's a new sight for the kids, Joshua Trees!

We spent the balance of the day with the Warners,
my old roommate from Utah State.
They live in Lancaster, CA.

1st Day on the road.

3-20-09
We left at 4pm.
This picture is of us right before we left.
The route we chose took us West from Boise,
across the Oregon border and
Southward toward Nevada.
This area is a lonely desert.
Not much to see out here.

Into Nevada!
Stopping for dinner in McDermitt.
From McDermitt, we headed south and
hit I-80 in Winnemucca.
We followed the freeway Southwest toward Fallon.
Here, we've stopped at a rest area in Fallon.
We trudged onward, driving until midnight.
We stopped to get some rest at a rest area
in the town of Hawthorne, Nevada.

Shannon's Baptism

2-28-09
The Luncheon.
Before Shannon's baptism, we hosted a luncheon at our home. Grandma Greer helped us make the food. Grandma Bingham's arrival was a big surprise to Shannon, as we had kept the visit secret!
Opening gifts
The baptism went great. Several of Shannon's Primary classmates and teachers were there to support her. She was VERY excited. It was a wonderful day for us.
Right before she gets dunked
